Welcome to 2019 and the new Ricmotech Hot Lap Challenge Championship.
What is the Hot Lap Challenge?
For over a year now Ricmotech has been holding a monthly challenge on the third Wednesday of each month. The challenge involves an undisclosed car running at an undisclosed circuit on iRacing. The challengers do not learn of the car and track until the event goes live. Sometimes the event has an open setup and other times it is a fixed setup, the drivers never know what its going to be. This creates a fair and level starting point for the challenge. Any driver may join the challenge anytime after 6pm EST and has until 9:30pm to set one of the fastest three lap times of the session. At 9:30, the three fastest drivers go on track one at a time to try to set the fastest overall lap. That driver is awarded the monthly prize. The event is streamed live by Shaun Cole of The Sim Pit along with commentary by Kevin Ford of XtremeMotorsports99.com.
So what is the Hot Lap Championship?
For 2019 we are adding a year-long championship. In addition to the monthly challenge and prize, which can be done by anyone, we have created a fun challenge to the 2019 Hot Lap Challenges. Participants in the Championship must register and points will be awarded during every monthly event for an overall prize at the end of the year. Points will consist of placement points for the top ten championship participants, participation points for all registered drivers that run a minimum number of laps during the event, and bonus points based on varying criteria determined each month. Only the best ten out of the twelve performances for each driver will be counted for championship points so drivers do not have to worry if they miss an event or if they underperform at an event. Full rules will be available by January 15th.
How do I join?
Competing for the Championship is absolutely free. To join, drivers must fill out the application form below. To be eligible for the Championship prize drivers must be Ricmotech customers with purchases totaling a minimum of $100 by July 1st, 2019 and must participate in at least eight events throughout the 2019 season. Drivers should sign up even if they do not currently meet the purchase requirement so that points can be accumulated.
What can I win?
The top prize for the 2019 Champion will be $100 in RicmoBucks to be used on any products available in the Ricmotech store. Prizes for 2nd and 3rd places will be determined soon.

Drivers must race in a minimum of eight (8) Hot Lap events during the 2019 season in order to maintain eligbility.
Drivers are expected to behave themselves in competitive and sportsman-like manner. Behavior determined to be unsportsman-like buy the administrators may lead to disqualification of the event or the entire championship. Decisions of the administrators are final.
The events will run for a pre-determined amount of time. Drivers may join the event session at any time provided they are able to complete the participation requirements stated below. The events consist of an undisclosed car and venue. The car and venue will be disclosed when the event goes live. Some events will allow open setups and others will have fixed setups. When an open setup is allowed then a baseline setup will be provided to the drivers. Drivers will be ranked based on fastest lap times set during the session. Most events will have a monthly final shootout. The shootout typically consists of the fastest three (3) overall drivers in the session going into a solo hotlap challenge.
The event is open to all drivers whether or not they are competing in the annual championship. There will be a monthly prize for which anyone is eligible to compete for. Those drivers participating in the annual championship will accumulate points in addition to competing for the monthly victory.
Participation in an event requires that a driver run a minimum of 5 laps during an event. If the driver makes it to the finals for the event then said driver must also participate in the final shootout.
5. Points Distribution
Points will be awarded as determined by the points distribution schedule. The points distribution schedule may change from month to month and will be emailed to all the participants prior to the event as well as mentioned throughout the event. Points are awarded amoungst the championship participants only so that non-championship participants that join the event cannot "steal" points from the championship participants. Therefore, the fastest championship competitor in the event may place third overall, but will be ranked as the first fastest for purposes of points distribution. The second fastest championship participant will be ranked second and so on.
6. Bonus Participation Points
Participation points will be awarded to all championship participants as per the points distribution schedule so long as the participation criteria above is met and the driver is not disqualified for etiquette.
7. Joker Points
Joker points will be awarded based on criteria that varies from month to month. The joker points criteria will be included in the points distribution schedule and will change on a monthly basis.
8. Top-of-the-Board Points
Bonus points will be awarded to any driver posting the fastest lap time of the session at any time during the session. A driver can only earn the TOTB bonus one time during the monthly event. The time must remain up for at least 15 seconds before another driver posts a faster time. For instance, The first driver joins the session and posts the only lap time of 2:02.10 and the time stays on the board for 20 seconds before another driver posts a faster time, this driver will receive the TOTB bonus points. The second driver joins the session and posts a 2:01.90 so this driver will also be awarded the TOTB bonus. The first driver then posts a 2:01.70, however this driver has already received the TOTB bonus and is not entitled to receive additional TOTB points this month.
9. Points Standings
Points will be tallied upon completion of the event and the official standings will be emailed to all drivers within the following week. The only official points standings will be the ones sent via email. Comments made during the event and streaming of the event should not be construed as official points. If you feel an error has been made in the points distribution you may bring it up for review in writing to the admins within 24 hours of the official points being posted. The admins will make a ruling and that ruling will be a final decision.
